Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Tumbleweeds Empty Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Tumbleweeds

Story: (It’s pretty long. If you want the shortened version, watch the two music video link in the Rules.)

2012

The sky rained fire and turned the majority of the western United States into a barren wasteland. Nobody knew where the nuke came from, it just fell. A few cities survived the disaster, but most of the region stood in ruins. When all seemed lost, a man named Korse opened up a branch of Better Life Industries in Battery City. They managed to control the fires and eventually put them out, ridding most of the radiation from the area as well. With the fires gone, they were able to protect Battery City from the searing heat of the desert and the constant acid rains. Refugees from the Fires flocked to Battery City in order to survive. Things were starting to look up.

Then BL/Ind began to capitalize. They began to bank on the people’s need for escape from the harsh life-style. With so much damage done to the area, morale was at an all time low. They produced sleeping pods that allowed a full-night’s sleep and escape from the worry. “The future is bulletproof,” they said, “The aftermath is secondary.” BL/Ind began to sell their medication that would tranquilize the depression, fear, and worry. They didn’t mention that it also quelled the happiness, love, and friendship. The medication inhibited the individual. They began their Thought Adjustment tests via the media. People continued to buy the medication, dwindling their minds to nothing as they slept in their pods all night and adjusted their thoughts all day.

2018

A small group of refugees didn’t go along with the wishes of BL/Ind. They cruised the streets in their custom Firebird blaring their Rock and Roll, read questionable magazines, and had fun all around. They called themselves Party Poison, Jet-Star, Fun Ghoul, and Kobra Kid. Collectively, they were the Killjoys. One day while cruising the Zones, the Killjoys came across a nine-year-old girl surrounded by Draculoids. The Killjoys killed the Draculoids and adopted her, bringing her along with them on their escapades.

It was then that BL/Ind began blockading the roads to Battery City and patrolled the Zones for the outlaws. The Killjoys were forced to leave Battery City and hide out in the few surviving structures in the surrounding desert. BL/Ind and their personal armies, named Draculoids after their mindless support of BL/Ind and the masks they donned, chased after the Killjoys.

Look Alive, Sunshine. 109 in the sky but the pigs won't quit! You're here with me: Dr. Death Defying. I'll be your surgeon, your proctor, your helicopter. Pumpin' out the slaughtermatic sounds to keep you live! A system failure for the masses, antimatter for the master plan! Louder than God's revolver and twice as shiny. This one's for all you rock and rollers, all you crash queens and motor babies. Listen up! The future is bulletproof! The aftermath is secondary. It's time to do it now, and do it loud. Killjoys, make some noise!

Eventually they came to find a safe haven in a diner where a wheel chaired man who called himself Dr. Death Defying hosted a pirate radio station. The Killjoys weren’t alone in their rebellion against BL/Ind. A whole underground culture had risen in response to BL/Ind. Dr. D supplied them with all the Rock they needed to keep their sanity. Cruising the Zones, the Killjoys had the time of their lives.

2019

BL/Ind stepped up their security. An elite squad of the Draculoids, the S/C/A/R/E/C/R/O/W unit, stood as a line of defense around the BL/Ind HQ. The Draculoids, now expendable, were sent out into the Zones to put an end to the Killjoys and collect the girl with them. In an attempt to blow up BL/Ind HQ, Agent Cherri Cola, a newfound ally of the Killjoys, was captured and assumed dead. Efforts by BL/Ind were increased and the Killjoys spent the majority of their days in car chases and gun fights with the Draculoids. Nonetheless, they had fun doing it. One day, the Draculoids got the better of them and took the girl. Smug with his victory, Korse left the Killjoys injured in the desert sun to die.

Bad news from the zones, Tumbleweeds. It looks like Jet-Star and the Kobra Kid had a clash with an Exterminator that went all Cost Rica and, uh, got themselves ghosted, dusted out on Route Guano. So it's time to hit the red line and up thrust the volume out there. Keep your boots tight, keep your gun close, and die with your mask on if you've got to. Here is the traffic.

The Killjoys survived the attack and gathered together for one last move against BL/Ind. They were going to get the girl back, no matter what the cost. The Killjoys successfully fought their way into BL/Ind and retrieved the girl. On their way out, however, they were ambushed from both sides. They held their own in the fight until Party Poison unmasked a Draculoid only to find Agent Cherri Cola. Stunned, Korse took the chance and pinned Party Poison against the wall, executing him on sight. Kobra Kid managed to get a shot in Korse’s leg before being blasted by three Scarecrows. Fun Ghoul and Jet-Star took the girl and shot their way to the door. With Jet-Star and The girl safely outside, Fun Ghoul locks himself inside to give them a precious few seconds of escape. Fun Ghoul is quickly gunned down as Jet-Star and The girl make a run for the Thunderbird. They make it to the car when Jet-Star is gunned down, leaving the girl alone. Just then, Dr. D, Show Pony, and DJ Hot Chimp showed up in a van and managed to collect the girl before the Draculoids could.

The time is 2019. The place is California. Following the death of the Killjoys and Dr. D’s withdrawal into hiding, the Killjoy Rebellion is stronger than ever. People of all ages who have eluded the grasp of BL/Ind are taking their stand for individuality, art, and all-out fun.

Rules:

• The usual stuff: no god modding, no excessive cursing, no R-rated romance, attempt literacy, etc.
• This is a semi-futuristic rp. That means everything is technologically the same as it is in everyday life for us, with the exception that lasers are used instead of bullets and cyborgs exist. Explosives remain the same.
• This is pretty much street scum we’re talking about. I don’t want any assault rifles that shoot mini-missiles or any other military-grade weaponry. You can’t access it and you sure as hell can’t afford it.
• This is a world where good guys die and bad guys win. Feel free to have your character die in combat if you desire to. It’s no fun if everyone survives every confrontation.
• Feel free to make as many characters as you want, but please keep it reasonable. I don’t want more than two people by the same person at the same place at the same time.
• I’m trying to keep it as close to the world depicted in Danger Days so when I say race, I really only mean Human or Cyborg.
• If you’re a Killjoy Cyborg, then you were once BL/Ind but have no memory that you once were other than that you once were. It seems kind of picky, but it keeps from someone going “I was once BL/Ind. I know the access codes. I know every nook and cranny of their building.”
• If you want more insight as to the condition of the world, see these two videos or spend some time watching the transmissions.
